A Kaduna State Customary Court on Monday heard a case filed by Mr. Ishaku Joseph against his daughter’s boyfriend, Yunana Zock, over the alleged misappropriation of his late wife’s death benefits.
The prosecutor, ASP Jeremiah Amfani, told the court that Zock deceived Joseph’s daughter, Emmanuella, and withdrew N13 million from her account.
The funds, according to him, had been deposited into Emmanuella’s account in 2023 as she was the next of kin to her late mother.
Amfani explained that the matter was investigated by the police following a petition lodged by Joseph.
Testifying before the court, Emmanuella said the accused secretly took her ATM card and withdrew the money without her consent.
In his defence, Zock claimed he had transferred N11.9 million into Emmanuella’s account with her knowledge, adding that she promised to give him N2 million to start a business.
He further explained that the two had spent time together in Abuja and had shared their ATM PINs. He also presented his Opay account statement, which the court admitted as an exhibit.
Zock informed the court that he intended to call one witness at the next sitting.
The presiding judge, Ms. Patience Musa, adjourned the matter until September 30 for continuation of the defence.
