Nollywood veteran Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has reportedly died on Friday morning, August 15, 2025, as announced by filmmaker Seun Olukoteyo.
The cause of death is yet to be confirmed. Chief Kanran, also a director, began acting in childhood, studied theatre arts at UNILAG and OAU, hosted a TV programme on MTV Lagos, and later went into full-time filmmaking.

The incident first gained public attention on August 10, when Comfort was prevented from boarding an Ibom Air flight after allegedly refusing to turn off her phone. Reports suggest that her noncompliance resulted in her being denied the chance to disembark the plane upon arrival.
The situation worsened when a compromising video of Comfort circulated online, causing widespread humiliation. She was subsequently detained at Kirikiri prison for several days before her release was confirmed by the Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo.
Following these events, Comfort has received several offers of support, including a N500,000 monthly proposal and an invitation for a trip to Qatar from a businessman. The sudden attention and offers have left the makeup artist concerned, prompting her to speak out about her feelings regarding the matter.
She wrote:
“The foolishness of Nighrians especially of the MALE specie is APPARENT! So a lot of first class graduates without work and an SA in delta state is offering an “illiterate” work with 500k monthly payment? To work as what? Breastfeeder I guess. The other one say he de offer trip to Qatar, for what? Breastfeeding I guess.”
