Award-winning Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has taken fans on a trip down memory lane as he revisits the album that redefined his career Afro Pop Vol. 1.

Sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram, the singer described the 2020 project as his “leap of faith,” noting it was the moment he decided to rise above the limitations of the music industry.

He wrote:

“This album was my leap of faith. Five years ago, I chose freedom because I knew I was bigger than the labels around me. That decision changed everything. Fear became courage, and doors I never imagined started to open.”

Released in August 2020, Afro Pop Vol. 1 was Adekunle Gold’s third studio album and signaled a major shift in his artistry. Moving away from the alternative-folk style that first gained him fame, the project fully embraced Afropop, blending fresh sounds and collaborations that showcased his versatility.

The singer, who has since grown into a globally recognized star with a loyal fan base, expressed appreciation for the bold move and the fans who welcomed it.

He added:

“I’m forever grateful for what this album did for me and for everyone who embraced it. Nothing has been the same since then.”

Since the release of Afro Pop Vol. 1, Adekunle Gold has continued to evolve, performing on international stages, securing chart successes, and expanding the reach of Afrobeats worldwide.
