The Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has revoked the bail of an agribusiness investor, Toyosi Ayodele, after he presented a forged medical report in an alleged attempt to stall his ongoing trial for N600 million and $50,000 fraud.
Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe, who presided over the case on Tuesday, condemned the deliberate attempt to mislead the court and obstruct justice. Ayodele, alongside his companies—Reaprite Global Ltd. and Agrorite Ltd.—is facing an 11-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
During proceedings, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Deborah Ademu-Etteh, disclosed that investigations into the medical documents submitted to the court revealed glaring inconsistencies.
According to her, the report falsely claimed that Ayodele was referred from the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, to Reddington Hospital in Lagos for surgery. However, neither hospital had any record of such referral or appointment.
The defendant’s counsel, Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, had initially presented the forged report on May 21, claiming his client had suffered a medical emergency after the last court sitting and was hospitalized at UCH. He sought an adjournment on health grounds.
However, Justice Abike-Fadipe, citing the fraudulent intent behind the submission, revoked Ayodele’s bail and ordered his immediate remand in a correctional facility.
The case was adjourned until October 21, 2025, for continuation of trial.
Ayodele had previously failed to appear in court multiple times, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
