President Bola Tinubu has declared that he is no longer angry with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, effectively ending weeks of speculation about a rift between the two leaders.
According to THISDAY, Tinubu made the statement during a meeting with the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Sunday.
He reportedly said that all of Sanwo-Olu’s “sins” had been forgiven.
Sanwo-Olu and GAC members had visited the president amid persistent rumours of a fallout, particularly after Tinubu appeared to publicly snub the governor at recent official events.
Quoting multiple sources, THISDAY reported that Tinubu told the gathering, “It’s all over now. All is forgiven,” adding that he harboured no ill feelings toward anyone, including Sanwo-Olu.
Following his remarks, Sanwo-Olu and other members of the GAC reportedly prostrated before the president in a gesture of apology and reconciliation.
However, neither Tinubu nor Sanwo-Olu is said to have offered any details on what led to the tension in the first place.
Sources said the GAC delegation simply appealed for forgiveness on the governor’s behalf, and Tinubu obliged.
The reported reconciliation follows mounting speculation that relations between the president and the Lagos governor had soured, particularly after the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The tension was further amplified last Saturday when Tinubu visibly overlooked Sanwo-Olu at the inauguration of the first phase of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. While Tinubu greeted several dignitaries — including former Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Governors Babagana Zulum, Douye Diri, and Bassey Otu — he bypassed Sanwo-Olu and proceeded to shake hands with Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo.
Adding to the intrigue, Sanwo-Olu was notably absent when Tinubu flagged off the reconstruction of the deep seaport access road in Lagos on Thursday.
