  • Nigerian actress and activist Kate Henshaw has expressed her deep sadness over the current state of the nation.
  • Henshaw criticized Nigeria’s 26-year uninterrupted democracy, stating that the majority of the population finds it insignificant.

Nigerian actress and activist Kate Henshaw has voiced deep concern over the current state of the nation, questioning the relevance of Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Speaking on Channels Television’s special Democracy Day programme, Henshaw expressed disappointment, stating that despite 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, there is little to show in terms of real progress or impact on the lives of everyday Nigerians.

“What exactly are we celebrating?” she asked. “Democracy means nothing if it does not improve the welfare of the people. Everything around us is crumbling, and Nigerians are barely holding on by the skin of their teeth.”

The actress criticized the country’s shrinking middle class and collapsing institutions, saying the economic hardship has eroded hope for many citizens.

Despite the bleak outlook, Henshaw urged Nigerians not to give up, calling for sustained efforts to hold leaders accountable and demand justice, equity, and security.

“We cannot remain silent,” she insisted. “There must be justice and equity, and we must ensure the safety of lives and property. I still believe in hope hope that we can rebuild and offer a future for our children.”

Her remarks resonated with many viewers, adding a strong voice to the ongoing conversation about the effectiveness and inclusivity of Nigeria’s democratic governance.
