Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has shed new light on the involvement of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, in the case of social commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following his recent arrest.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 7, Adeyanju revealed that Falana had actively intervened, making several phone calls to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to protest what he described as the unlawful detention of VDM.
“I can now confirm—contrary to my earlier statement—that our respected leader and mentor, Femi Falana SAN, has reached out multiple times to the EFCC, challenging the legality of VDM’s arrest and continued detention,” Adeyanju stated.
This clarification follows Adeyanju’s previous public criticism of Falana for allegedly remaining silent amid growing backlash and public demonstrations demanding VDM’s release.
The arrest of VeryDarkMan has sparked a wave of responses nationwide, especially on social media. Influential figures, including musician Davido, have voiced support for his release. Additionally, young protesters were seen on the streets of Abuja, advocating for his freedom.
