Popular Nigerian singer, Portable, has shared his unconventional take on traveling abroad, asserting that fluency in English isn’t a requirement for obtaining a visa. In a candid interview with the Echo Room, he revealed how he successfully traveled to the UK and Canada despite not being highly proficient in the English language.
Last year, Portable toured Canada, and the year before that, he visited the UK to shoot a music video with renowned British rapper, Skepta. Recalling these experiences, the musician emphasized that having a visa or traveling abroad isn’t solely dependent on language fluency. According to him, when applying for a visa, he simply communicated his intentions to the embassy and answered questions in his own way. He expressed that his success in these situations wasn’t about speaking perfect English, but about effectively conveying his desires and purpose.
Portable further clarified that while he may not speak English fluently, he is capable of using the language, especially when it comes to financial matters. He explained that his focus in such situations is on practical communication rather than fluency, especially when it involves money.
