The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed no fewer than 5000 members into its fold who have cross-carpeted from the All Progressive Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in a new merger.
The defectors who joined the main opposition party (PDP) in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State were received by former minister of interior, Abba Moro.
They claimed that they parted ways with their parties for PDP over the poor performance and habitual failure of the ruling APC in the state and at the federal level.
Group leaders Onah Idoko Alexander, John Adole, Engr. Adegbo Moses, Mike Ejeba, Ocheme Candidus, and Abah Ejeh spoke at the defection event and claimed that the ruling APC had failed miserably.
They praised Senator Abba Moro for his progress in Benue South’s development. They called him a unique leader who has had a good influence on nearly every town in the district.
“We are defecting to your party from several political parties because of the quality leadership and representation you are providing in the Senate. You have touched almost every community in Benue South, and we have realized that there is no leader like you,” the defectors said.
Ahead of the next elections, this merger reveals shifting political alliances, illustrating how Nigeria’s political landscape is ever-changing. This could have an effect on the country’s political balance, as it shows that the PDP is gaining popularity at the grassroots level.
