Prominent businesswoman Shade Okoya has opened up about her marriage to industrial magnate Razak Okoya, affirming that she has never regretted marrying a much older partner.
Now 48, Shade married Razak Okoya in 1999 when she was just 21 years old. Her husband, currently 85, was already a well-established figure in Nigeria’s business world at the time.
In a recent interview with BBC Yoruba, Shade addressed public opinion surrounding her marriage. She firmly dismissed claims that her decision to wed an older man had deprived her of life experiences, stating that she has never felt she missed out by not choosing a younger partner.
Reflecting on over two decades of marriage, she described her relationship as deeply satisfying and enriching. Shade emphasized that the union has brought her happiness and fulfillment, contrary to what some might assume.

“My husband has been very generous with me, and defends me anywhere. God said this is where I will be. We met each other, and he liked me and he did not waste time at all.
“I’m happy in my marriage to him. He is far older than me but I don’t think I ever missed out on anything because I didn’t marry a younger man.”
