Ecobank Nigeria has announced a revision of its SMS notification charges, increasing the cost from N5 to N6 per message, effective May 1, 2025. Travel blogs

The upward review, communicated to customers via SMS, is attributed to new tariff structures.

In the official message to account holders, the bank stated: “We would like to inform you that the cost of SMS notification will increase from N5 to N6 effective May 1, 2025 due to a revised tariff.”

The bank acknowledged that while the increment may cause some discomfort to customers, it was a decision made after thorough evaluation.

“We understand that this change may cause some inconvenience and want to assure you that the decision was made after careful consideration,” the message continued.

Ecobank reiterated its commitment to customer satisfaction and efficient service delivery despite prevailing economic challenges.

“We remain committed to delivering the best possible service and sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support,” it added.

Customers with inquiries or concerns have been encouraged to reach out to the bank’s 24/7 contact centre for assistance.

The increase, though seemingly marginal, has raised concerns among some customers who say the cumulative cost of banking services is rising amid widespread inflation.

The adjustment by Ecobank comes amid growing calls for banks to provide more flexible and affordable digital banking alternatives to cushion the impact on customers.
