These are not the best of times for Eroton Exploration And Production Company Limited as a firm, GIL Automations Limited, has begin the process for the winding up of the oil firm over an alleged debt.

GIL Automations Limited, on Friday, published a petition seeking the winding up of Eroton.

The move follows an order of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos in June 2024.

Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court had authorised GIL Automations – the Petitioner/Applicant – to publish the winding up petition following its motion on notice application.

The judge held: “It is hereby ordered as follows: That an Order granting leave to the Petitioner/Applicant to give notice and advertise the presentation of this Petition in the official gazette, and also in the Guardian and ThisDay Newspapers or any other two national dailies with wide circulation in Nigeria is hereby granted.”

Complying with the order, GIL Automations through its counsel Habeeb A. Oredola of Habeeb A. Oredola & Associates issued a notice dated January 10, 2025.

It reads: “Notice is hereby given that a Petition for the winding up of Eroton Exploration and Production Company Limited by the Court holden at the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Lagos Judicial Division was presented to the said court by Gil Automations Limited whose address is No. 10 Gbolahan Lawal Close, Off Ashabi Cole, Alausa CBD, Ikeja Lagos State.

“That the said Petition is directed to be advertised and set down for mention before the Court on the 20th day January of 2025 being the return date.

“Any creditor or contributory of the said Company desirous to support or oppose the making of an order on the said Petition may appear at the time of the hearing in person or by his counsel for that purpose; and a copy of the Petition will be furnished by the undersigned to any creditor or contributory of the said company requiring such copy on payment of the regulated charge for the same.”

The case resumes on January 20.
