Nollywood’s renowned makeover artist and the baby mama of actor Mustapha Sholagbade, Adewunmi Fatai, recently opened up about an embarrassing experience she had while in the UK. In a candid conversation with Biola Bayo on the Talk to B podcast, Adewunmi shared the distressing moment when she was accused of stealing gold.
She recalled how the accusation spread within the industry, leaving her emotionally shaken. “I was accused of stealing gold in the UK, and many people in the industry knew about it,” she explained. Adewunmi went on to describe how the situation escalated, with some even urging that her son be taken away from her. The weight of the false allegation caused her to break down in tears, and she confided in her mother, who was equally devastated by the news.
In addition to the gold theft controversy, Adewunmi spoke about the harsh judgment she faced as a single mother. She recalled a married woman in the industry belittling her for being a baby mama, but she expressed gratitude for the support she received from industry figures such as Dele Ogundipe and Oluwole Cole Baraka, who helped pave the way for her career.
Adewunmi also took the opportunity to praise actress Yetunde Barnabas, whom she described as her best producer, recognizing her significant role in her journey. Despite the challenges and setbacks, Adewunmi’s resilience and support from key figures have helped her navigate the ups and downs of the Nollywood industry.
“I travelled out, and I was accused of stealing gold. This is no longer news in the industry, and I didn’t even know. The lady told her mother on the phone that I was a thief. She said my son should be taken away from me.
I cried. When I told my mummy on the phone, she was crying.
The battle in the industry is more than a generational curse. But God used someone, Dele Ogundipe, for me when I was growing up as a beautician. The first person who bought me a makeup box when I started was Oluwole Cole Baraka.
