Interim Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has revealed what AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze, needs to do to to get back to his best, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 25-year-old has been an outcast in Paul Fonseca’s Milan team this season, struggling with about 200 minutes of football under football under his belt. Christian Pulisic’s red-hot form hasn’t helped the cause of the former Villarreal man either, as he’s without a goal or assist this term.
There have several reports claiming the seven-time UEFA Champions League winners are considering letting Chukwueze off their books of there is no resurgence in his form, with several Premier League clubs said to be interested in the winger.
Despite his poor form, the one-time UEFA Europa League winner earned a call-up to Eguavoen’s team as they prepare for a two-legged tie against Libya in a bid to qualify for the AFCON 2025 tournament.
Eguavoen, speaking about his choice to include the left-footed attacker, expressed his preference for versatile players, whilst stating the things Chukwueze needs to do to improve his game.
“I am a coach who likes players who can play in more than one position. If you can play in more than one position, you are fine with me. I don’t want rigid players, I want players who know how to express themselves. You can imagine Chukwueze showing up in defence to lend a hand, receiving the ball, and what does he do? He doesn’t dribble. We know how good he is when he has to dribble, but he should know where to dribble and where not to dribble. If he comes in, he has to do his defensive duty,” the 59-year-old said in quotes revealed by Siempre Milan.
Nigeria will take on Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, before travelling to Libya for the away leg next week Wednesday.
