Galatasaray’s star striker Victor Osimhen engaged in some playful banter with his Super Eagles teammate Kenneth Omeruo as he prepared for his first taste of the Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahçe, Soccernet.ng reports.
The duo’s light-hearted exchange on social media, centering around a tackle in training, quickly went viral, sparking excitement among Galatasaray fans.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli after a late move in the summer transfer window, posted a series of photos from a recent training session on his Instagram.
One particular image showed Osimhen in a duel with a young Galatasaray academy player, which prompted Omeruo, a defender for Kasımpaşa and fellow Nigerian international, to comment with a bit of warning to the young Turkish player.
Omeruo wrote: “No de slide tackle am oh. Na academy player ba,” translating to “Don’t slide tackle him. Is he an academy player?”
In response, Osimhen, known for his competitive spirit, humorously replied,
“That boy na lion o, e sabi,” which means “That boy is a lion, he knows how to play.”
The playful exchange immediately caught the attention of Galatasaray supporters, who appreciated Osimhen’s light-hearted interaction, especially as “The Lions” is one of the club’s nicknames.
The Nigerian forward has already made a strong impression in Turkey, having played his first game against Rizespor. Though he missed the Gaziantep FK match due to its postponement, Osimhen is set to play a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s upcoming derby against Fenerbahçe.
With both teams at the top of the Süper Lig standings, the stakes are high, and Osimhen’s presence adds even more intrigue to the encounter.
Osimhen’s comment and the banter with Omeruo garnered thousands of likes, further endearing him to the Galatasaray faithful.
All eyes will now be on Osimhen as he gears up for the clash against José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe.
