Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest star, Olaoluwa Aina, has extended his stay at the City Ground for another year, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 27-year-old versatile full-back joined the Reds last summer, after his contract with Italian Serie A side, Torino ran out. He joined Nottingham Forest in August on a year deal, with the option to extend for another year.
Playing 22 games across right-back, left-back and the wing-back positions, alongside a brilliant AFCON 2023 campaign in Ivory Coast, the club triggered the extension clause in Aina’s contract.
The club’s official statement revealed they were pleased with Ola’s influence in the team, on and off the pitch.
Aina scored his first goal for the club in a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa, celebrating in the Yakubu Aiyegbeni style, whilst also reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria as well as being named in the Team of the Tournament.
“I’ve been really happy with my time spent here at Forest and the fans have been great. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the future holds,” the former Fulham man told the club’s official website after the extension was announced.
Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson, added that the performances and personality of the England-born defender is a perfect fit for the team.
“Since Ola joined the club last summer he has impressed all of us with his performances both on the pitch and also with the positive personality that he brings to the group every day. We are delighted that he will move forward with us,” Mr. Wilson said.
Ola Aina alongside Taiwo Awoniyi will continue to work their way to full fitness in preparations for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers next month.
