The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed the appointment of former Ajax star Finidi George as the new Super Eagles coach, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles have been without a permanent coach since Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro left the job after the end of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February. However, Finidi, who served as an assistant to Peseiro was named as interim manager and led the team in the last international break when the Super Eagles lost to to Mali but defeated Ghana.
Meanwhile, the Federation had opened applications for interested coaches to apply for the job, and names like Emmanuel Amuneke and Michael Nsien were reported to be frontrunners for the job. But in the last two weeks, there have been numerous rumors about who would replace Peseiro on a permanent basis.
But in a new development per the NFF Communications Department, Finidi has now been confirmed as the new permanent coach of the three-time African champions.
Finidi currently serves as the coach of Nigeria Professional Football league side, and he has one league title to his name.
