Defense headquarters made it clear yesterday that, during last Thursday’s ambush by Boko Haram terrorists along the Buratai-Buni Gari route, only one Army Lieutenant was killed and four other soldiers were wounded.
It also revealed that six terrorists were slain in a confrontation with forces that tracked them down to their hiding places.
Major Gen Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, who disclosed this in a statement, titled “Report On Ambush Along Road Buratai to Buni Gari in Operation Hadin Kai Operational Theatre,” said: “On April 5, 2024, at about 0935hrs, troops of Operation Hadin Kai encountered terrorist ambush along Buratai-Buni Gari road.
“Sadly, during the encounter, troops lost a lieutenant that was killed in action, while four personnel were wounded in action and are receiving treatment.
“Troops reinforcement pursued the terrorists to their hideout within the Timbuktu Triangle and made contact. Troops neutralised six of the terrorists recovering 5 AK 47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7. 62mm special ammunition.
“The remaining terrorist ran in disarray . However, troops are in hunt of the remnant terrorists that fled the firefight.”
