The hospital experienced power outages for several days, leaving children in the ICU vulnerable. Some newborn babies, reliant on oxygen, struggled due to the lack of light hindering access to oxygen supply.
Regrettably, one of the babies succumbed to these conditions. The bereaved mother, in a recent interview with TV3, expressed her anguish.
She emphasized that Tema General Hospital, being a major healthcare facility, should have backup generators or a power plant to mitigate such outages. However, the hospital’s limited generators only powered certain sections, leaving others vulnerable.
Due to this mismanagement, the 24-year-old first-time mother tragically lost her newborn.
She appealed to the hospital management and the government to address the power crises promptly to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
