Baton Rouge: Line4Line, a nonprofit creative literacy organization in Baton Rouge, uses books with art to inspire, empower, and inspire children’s interest in reading and learning. The organization began in 2016 when several hairdressers volunteered their time to give young men a fresh cut by reading a book aloud, and has since evolved and expanded into schools and other creative spaces. Volunteers are needed for the sly artist, protection assistant, book hugger, welcome and desk helper, and book club facilitator positions. To sign up, visit line4linebr.org/volunteer-membership.
New Orleans: Liberty’s Kitchen, 300 Broad St., New Orleans, offers young people in New Orleans ways to create and achieve their vision of success. Essen – the heart of the city’s economy, culture and future – is their preferred vehicle for change. Volunteers provide invaluable support to Liberty’s Kitchen with special events, benefits, administrative support and serving on strategic committees. Volunteers also work with program participants through training and mentoring, as guest speakers, or by sharing expertise or life experiences. To sign up, visit libertyskitchen.org/volunteer.
