LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) — Lafayette police say they have arrested a Texas man accused of kidnapping and attempting to rape a teenage victim.
In a news release, officers say they responded to the call around 4:41 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, and went to the 1100 block of E. Vermilion Street. As you can see from the map below, this is an area very close to the Evangeline Thruway.

While Lafayette PD says they will not comment on details of the case “due to the sensitive nature of the incident,” we know the man — 21-year-old Malik Guillory — is from Plano. He is currently being held at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on bail, which has not been set at the time of this writing. Guillory’s court date is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday morning

Guillory was charged with second-degree kidnapping and attempted rape of a first-degree juvenile. Under Louisiana law, the kidnapping charge carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison, with at least two of those years without parole, parole, or parole.
Meanwhile, the attempted rape charge carries a much harsher sentence if Guillory is convicted. If the juvenile victim is 13 or older, the charge Guillory faces could see him behind bars for life without parole, parole, or parole under Louisiana law. If the victim was under 13, the district attorney could request a death sentence, which carried the death penalty or life imprisonment.
