BATON ROUGE, La. — Third baseman Tommy White’s three-run homer in the fifth inning Tuesday night broke a goalless tie and sent top-ranked LSU to a 16-0 win over New Orleans at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
LSU, which has won 11 straight games, improved to 16-1 for the year while UNO fell to 11-6. The win marked LSU’s sixth shutout this season, a tally leading the nation.
The Tigers open the SEC game Friday at 6 p.m. CT when they take on Texas A&M at Blue Bell Park in Bryan-College Station, Texas. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network and can be heard on affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network.

UNO starter Colton Mercer (2-1) was charged with the loss as he allowed two runs with three hits in 4.2 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
“You couldn’t ask for much more from our pitching team,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “We’ve given up two runs or fewer in eight of our last 10 games; we will win if we do. They’re doing a great job, they just have to keep going.
In a 0-0 draw at the end of the fifth inning, LSU left fielder Paxton Kling pulled a one-out walk from Mercer. After Mercer retired first baseman Tre’ Morgan, center fielder Dylan Crews moved up the middle and sent Kling to third.
UN Aide Trey Usey came into play, and White greeted him with a three-run blaster down left field for his sixth homer of the year.
“Tommy just made his deal,” Johnson said. “He made a mistake and he stuck with it, chasing him out of here and getting us going. From there we went ahead and did a few things offensively that put them under pressure and we broke up the game.”
