NEW ORLEANS — Quarterback Jameis Winston took to social media on Wednesday to release his own personal statement describing why he decided to return to the New Orleans Saints.
Jameis Winston signed a two-year, $28 million contract as the Saints’ starting quarterback in March last year, but injuries to his back and foot limited Winston to just three games.
Winston only played 7 games in the year before injuring both his ACL and MCL at home against Tampa Bay on October 31, 2021.
Earlier this month, the New Orleans Saints signed Derek Carr to a four-year, $150 million contract, signaling that the Raiders’ former signal caller will be QB1 next season.

Winston was expected to earn $12.8 million in 2023 but restructured the final year of his contract to stick with black and gold. A move Carr supported in the announcement
Jameis begins by stating his “love” for the city of New Orleans and how he “never felt more culturally connected to a fandom.”
Winston continues, “The things that brought me here are still here. A stable organization, a masterful team and a great fan base. This year’s team, like last year’s team, is designed to win a Super Bowl. Make no mistake, I’m still a masterful quarterback in this league. However, getting healthy and staying healthy is my number one priority and I’ve sustained three devastating injuries in the last two years. I need to stay healthy to help this team get where we want to be.”
Winston concludes his heartfelt statement by saying that he “will serve and lead as I need to to see this organization and city win!”
