It has been said that anything done three or more times becomes a pattern. If that’s true, the LSU Tigers have a habit of getting to the bottom in the sixth or seventh inning and deciding they’re ready to call it quits.
The Tigers capitalized on a sixth-inning seven-run bottom to defeat New Orleans 16-0 in the final game before conference games began this weekend.
Chase Shores got the mound start but only threw 2.1 innings before Garrett Edwards came in for him in the third inning. Neither of them gave up a run and they gave up 2 hits combined with 7 strikeouts and a walk.
Neither team scored a run until the end of the fifth inning when Tommy White hit a three-run bomb down left field to hit Dylan Crews and Paxton Kling to end the game 3-0 after five innings.

That was the shot in the arm that the LSU offense needed. At the bottom of the sixth inning, Jordan Thompson, Jared Jones and Alex Milazzo all hit with a miss, Kling hit with a flyout from Tre Morgan, Crews hit with a white single and Gavin Dugas hit a two-run homer to make it 10-0 after six innings.
At the bottom of the eighth inning, Josh Pearson hit a double from two RBI to the left, Brayden Jobert walked to bring home a run, Jack Merrifield walked and Hayden Travinski hit a double from two RBI to make it 16-0.
Riley Cooper, Blake Money and Christian Little got some work out of the bullpen in the last three innings. They ended the goalless night with a 16-0 win for the Tigers.
The SEC game begins this weekend when the Tigers travel to Texas A&M for their first series. The first pitch for this series is scheduled for Friday night at 6:00 p.m. CT.
