LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) — We now have more information following a shooting that occurred overnight just after Mardi Gras Day ended in Lafayette.
On Wednesday, KPEL News reported the fatal incident, which occurred just after midnight when Lafayette police responded to a shooting at the 200 block of Verdun Street. A man was found with a gunshot wound. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful because the victim — now identified as 27-year-old Abilio-Waldermar-Bravo-Lopez of Lafayette — died at the scene.

31-year-old Johnnie Tolliver, also of Lafayette, was identified and arrested as a suspect and committed to Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a warrant for first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Charges of attempted murder were brought against Tolliver when investigators later learned that another victim was also shot. Luckily, this victim was treated at a local hospital and was expected to make a full recovery.
Tolliver is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Friday, February 24. He is currently being held on aggregate bail as he also faces other weapons and drug charges.
Man arrested after Mardi Gras shooting in Lafayette township
An arrest was made following a shooting in the 900 block of Janvier Road in Lafayette Parish that occurred on Mardi Gras Day.

According to a press release from the Lafayette Township Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old James McMillan is charged with second-degree murder and illegally carrying a weapon. The 23-year-old male victim was shot while riding a bicycle and fell into a ditch.
