The group celebrated with a dance and speech and claimed they had enough signatures to trigger a recall election for the mayor.
NEW ORLEANS — Six months after the group to recall Mayor Cantrell first formed, it addressed the press Wednesday afternoon with a celebratory dance — and a proclamation that it had enough necessary signatures to trigger a recall vote.
Speaking to the press, organizer Eileen Carter said it was proof that you never give up on your dreams.
“We’ve done our job, and now it’s time for the electoral roll to do its job,” Carter said. “…We were playing a game of strategy. You thought we were a bunch of local residents who don’t know what they’re doing, but look at us now. We’re asking you to trust us.”

Carter said they want the recall election to be held as soon as possible, preferably in the spring.
Mayor Cantrell has found herself at the forefront of numerous controversies over the past year. Examples include getting involved in a verbal altercation in the bathroom at a rap concert and standing by a suspect who stole a car during a criminal case.
Most recently, it caught fire after throwing down a float during a Mardi Gras parade – which was followed by the recall group’s announcement that it had reached its destination.
The city has also been plagued by violent crime and seemingly endless road projects that have forced residents to find new ways to get around.
