AT 6:00 AM A SUSPECT OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER WAS CHARGED AFTER THE FATAL SHOOTING DOWN THE PARADE ROUTE THAT ALSO INJURED FOUR PEOPLE. WDSU REPORTER ELI BRAND WAS THERE FROM THE START. NEW ORLEANS POLICE SUPERINTENDANT MICHELLE WOODWORK WHO CONFIRMED A FEW HOURS AGO THAT MANSOUR IMMERSED THE 21 YEAR OLD MAN WHO WAS ARRESTED WITH THESE GUNS HAS NOW BEEN CHARGED ON SECOND DEGREE MURDER. HE ALSO HAS A RIFLE CHARGE TO GO TO WHEN THE SHOOTING OF A TEENAGE LEFT THE TEENAGE DEAD. AND FOUR OTHERS, INCLUDING A FOUR YEAR OLD GIRL. EARLY TODAY WE TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE BOTH ON CARRIAGE ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE AND PEOPLE WHO WERE ON THE GROUND ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE WHO WITNESS THIS INCLUDING A MAN WHO SAYS A COMMENT TO HIS SISTER WAS MADE. HE NEVER EXPECTED TO HEAR A YOUNG LADY COME TO MY SISTER JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE IN THE CROWD AT THE PARADE AND ENJOYING THE TIME. She walks up to them and says OH MY GOD YOU LIVE. SHE SAID OH MY GOD YOU’RE STILL ALIVE. I AM HAPPY. YOU ARE STILL HERE. THIS BROKE MY HEART. SINCE THEM, SINGLETON SAYS IT’S A TRADITION FOR HIS FAMILY TO COME TO NEW ORLEANS FOR THE MARDI GRAS. THIS IS WHAT THEY DO SUNDAY NIGHT WHEN SHOTS ROUND JUST NEXT TO THEM, HE SAYS THEY EVEN HIT A FOUR-YEAR OLD BOY WITH A BULLET. PEOPLE FALLING OVER YOU, PEOPLE RUNNING, PEOPLE TRYING TO HIDE IN BUILDINGS, HIDE BEHIND CARS, BULLETS COMING. IT’S JUST CRAZY. POLICE SAY THAT A FOUR-YEAR-OLD AND THREE OTHER ADULTS IN THEIR 20s were treated at hospital and released. THE PERSON KILLED IS ANYONE BETWEEN 15 AND 18 BUT THE FEAR WAS NOT JUST FOR LOCAL PEOPLE. Ricky Chrisler was in his car at the intersection of Terps of Court and St. Charles when the shooting happened. IN REVIEW YOU FEEL SOME STUPID TO THINK PAPER MACHÉ WILL PROTECT YOU FROM BULLETS. BUT IF YOU HEAR IT, REACT. CHRYSLER SAYS POLICE REACTED QUICKLY TO THE SHOOTING, ATTENDED TO THE VICTIMS AND OBTAINED WHO HE BELIEVES WAS THE SHOOTER. BUT IN THE END HE IS JUST CRAZY THAT EVERYONE HAS TO LIVE THROUGH. IT IS REALLY SIGNIFICANT TO ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO BRING THEIR FAMILIES THERE TO HUNTER THAT THEY CANNOT SEE THE PARADE BECAUSE THEY GOT CAUGHT INTO SOMETHING. THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO AND RUN. NOPD SAYS OVER 100 RIFLES LIFTED OFF THE PARADE ROUTE THIS MARDI GRAS SEASON ONLY. OVER 60 OF THEM IN THE 8TH DISTRICT COVERING THE FRENCH QUARTER. THEY HAD ALSO ASKED THAT IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SHOT THAT YOU CALL CRIMESTOPPERS OF GREATER NEW ORLEANS. THE NUMBER 504822 1111. The New Orleans Police Department on Monday released new information about a shooting that killed one person and wounded four others during Sunday night’s Bacchus parade. Interim Superintendent of the NOPD Michelle Woodfork held a press conference where she announced an arrest had been made in the shooting. Mansour Mbodj, 21, has been arrested and is currently facing charges of second-degree murder and carrying weapons illegally. His bail was set at $1 million. According to police, the shooting happened at the 1600 block of Terpsichore Street. According to the NOPD, the victim who died in the shooting was a male between the ages of 15 and 18. Those who were shot and injured were a 4-year-old girl, a 22-year-old woman, a 24-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man. All of the victims were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance. NOPD said two guns were recovered at the scene. Woodfork said there had been increased patrols along the parade route since the beginning of the carnival for security reasons. According to Woodfork, the focus is on the French Quarter, and officers are working diligently to prevent gun violence in parades.
