Louisiana State University wide receiver Malik Nabers was arrested Monday night when police discovered a gun on him in the French Quarter.
Police discovered what appeared to be an “L-shaped object” in Naber’s front pocket while he was on Bourbon Street, according to NOLA.com.
When questioned by the officers, the 19-year-old admitted that he did not have a gun license for the weapon.
Nabers was charged with a misdemeanor of illegally carrying a weapon. The junior from Youngsville, La. was released and did not have to post bail.

On Tuesday, Nabers appeared in Magistrates Court, where the state decided not to press charges on the condition that he doesn’t get the gun back, according to court documents.
According to ESPN, an LSU spokesman said head coach Brian Kelly was aware of the incident and the university was continuing to gather information.
Under Louisiana law, illegally carrying a gun is a misdemeanor charge carrying a maximum fine of $500 and six months in prison.

Nabers had a breakout season in 2022, including a notable performance in a hit against Purdue in the Citrus Bowl, where he threw one touchdown, one catch and an additional 163 receiving en route to a 63-7 Tigers win and MVP honors yards garnered .

He finished the season with 1,017 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers, earning him a top spot in the team’s passing game.
