What Was Removed From The NC-17 Cut For R-Rating Revealed (Exclusive)

infinity pool It earns its fair share of praise from critics, has a positive rating on RottenTomatoes, and usually sees the compliments spread on social media. However, commentary surrounding the film often includes its graphic nature. The latest horror trip produced by Brandon Cronenberg cut the NC-17 that was shown to the press ahead of the R-rated version of the movie being released in theaters. As it turns out, Cronenberg didn’t change much of the movie to earn an MPAA rating that would make it more suitable for distribution in theaters.

“The R-rated version is too long,” says Alexander Skarsgard, who plays struggling author James Foster infinity poolhe told “There are a couple of frames in the orgy scenes and in the dope, like they do when they’re on lousy drugs, that was…but then again, a few frames here and there. Brandon, the score, loved those sequences so much that he just, he didn’t want to shorten them, So he went out and found other interesting, suggestive, weird odd shots that he replaced them with.” The NC-17 version of Infinity Pool featured very tight body parts shots, violence, and sexual acts that were likely part of what earned the movie such a harsh rating.

As Skarsgård explained, Cronenberg did not completely remove the scenes by any means. Replace frames and moments with other shots as a way to keep the movie’s runtime in a similar, if not the same, setting and keep the musical score as it was. So, speaking to Brandon, it’s not hard sometimes for directors when they have to cut things that they love and that’s hard. But it’s like, talking to Brandon about it now, he feels there are two, he loves both versions and so It’s not like a great 10 minutes of the NC 17 version could have been cut for an R rating in one.”
