Notorious in Italy hires Spain’s entertainment chief Jorge Vasquez

Jorge Vasquez, the former managing director of Entertainment One in Spain, has joined Italian company Notorious Pictures to head the company’s fledgling division in Madrid as it prepares to become a prominent Spanish theater distributor.

Vazquez, a veteran Spanish film director, rose through the ranks at Spain’s indie Aurum Producciones, leading the company’s theatrical division to box office success, overseeing the release of titles such as the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy — as part of the company’s agreement with New Line Cinema — and then bringing The Twilight Saga to Spain and secure a thriving production deal with Summit/Lionsgate in the country.

Aurum, a Spanish independent film distribution company, is owned by Entertainment One.

Notorious Pictures – whose name is hailed by Hitchcock and rock band Duran Duran – has gained momentum in Italy since its launch in 2012, and is steadily rising to become one of the best independent distributors in the country thanks to its close ties to most of the American Indies. top European players.

The company, founded and headed by Guglielmo Marchetti, is also active in production. They branched out on the show in 2019, before the pandemic, and are now making headway on that front.

In October 2021, Notorious opened a Spanish location and began adding Spanish rights to their movie purchases for Italy in key markets such as Berlin, Cannes and AFM.

“Our strategic plan envisions our international expansion, with Spain being the number one region,” Marchetti said. diverse“We also plan to expand into other key regions of Europe, following a phased approach,” he added.

Marchetti also said that although Notorious in Spain is currently only active in distribution, “we are not ruling out the possibility of venturing also into producing and showing there, as we did in Italy.”

“I am very excited about this new adventure at Notorious Pictures and can’t wait to contribute to the successful expansion of the company’s presence in Spain,” Vasquez said in a statement.

Currently, Vazquez and his team have a lineup of dozens of titles with commercial appeal to launch in Spain under the infamous label, starting with “Asterix and Obelix: Middle Kingdom” on February 2, 2023.

Notorious Spain’s lineup also includes the French family animation feature “Argonauts”; “The Honeymoon” from Italy and the UK tops the list of Oscar-nominated Maria Bakalova (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”); Robert Connolly, Eric Bana, “Force of Nature” star; Doug Lyman’s “Everest” to be released in 2024.
