Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special gets promo, release date

Christmas is coming – and Kevin Bacon – for Marvel fans.

Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Mantis and Nebula bring holiday cheer to Disney+, as Marvel Studios revealed the first look at The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, set for release on November 25.

In the trailer, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord isn’t feeling the Christmas spirit because he lost his love to Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) in the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” To encourage him, The Guardians travel to Earth to give him the perfect Christmas gift – Hollywood star Kevin Bacon. Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) go to his Hollywood home, which is decorated with Christmas decorations and a smart home security system. They break into Bacon’s house, and the actor – who is no stranger to superhero movies after appearing in “X-Men: First Class” – takes off.

“Guardians” director and three-time series director, James Gunn also directs this “Holiday Special.” He also previously worked with Bacon on his 2010 comedy hero film ‘Super’. He’s set a significantly high standard for the recent “Guardians” project, considering Gunn previously described the special as the “greatest thing” he’s ever made.

Football Highlights

Holiday specials aren’t entirely foreign to Marvel. There have been plenty of comics all about Christmas, including a “Giant Superhero Holiday Grab-Bag” and a 1993 Marvel holiday special with a bunch of shorts, including starring Ghost Rider (because nothing says Christmas like a skull). in flames on a motorbike), one with Santa Claus electrifying the wicked and another with the Hulk helping with seasonal depression. There was also a special holiday animated mutant starring Wolverine (who only hates Christmas) and Gambit, who has an ego battle in the kitchen with Jean Gray. Needless to say, the Guardians of the Galaxy special show has a high level of repulsion to live up to.

The holiday special marks another development in Marvel’s explosion of television presence. Last year, “WandaVision”, “The Hawk and the Winter Soldier”, “Loki”, “What if…?” And “Hawk” got things started, with “Moon Knight,” “Ms. Marvel,” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” follow-up so far this year. The horror-themed “Werewolf by Night” movie was released this month as Marvel Studios’ first special.

As with most traditional holiday specials, “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” will be available to watch in living rooms rather than theaters, and airs on Disney+ exclusively. On the movie side, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” arrives in theaters May 5, 2023.
